Anupam Kher to play Manmohan Singh in his biopic The Accidental Prime Minister

Bolloywood actor Anupam Kher will be seen playing the role of former prime minister Manmohan Singh in Sanjaya Barua biographical political drama film.
National award-winning director Hansal Mehta has written the screenplay for 'The Accidental Prime Minister', which will be directed by debutant Vijay Ratnakar Gutte.

Another fan, Ankur Purohit, also asked him about the timing of the film's release. Kher stated that the film is due to be released on 21 December 2018 and that he has no idea when the general elections are.

The film, a look into the private life of Mamohan Singh as prime minister from the viewpoint of his advisor Sanjaya Baru, could be seen as a political message. In the chat, Kher also shared that the actor who will play Narendra Modi, the man who replaced Singh, will be revealed in due course.

The first look of the film was released early this morning. What is most intriguing about it is the figure of a sari-clad woman in the background, presumed to be Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Kher shared the poster with a caption, "To reinvent yourself as an actor is to challenge yourself."

The author of the book served as Singh's advisor from May 2004 to August 2008. In the book, which was launched in 2004, he said that Singh had been "defanged" by the Congress, and he claimed that all key appointments and decisions were instead taken by Sonia.
It has not yet been revealed who will play Sonia's character. Directed by debutante Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, the film's screenplay has been written by Aligarhdirector Hansal Mehta.
Meanwhile, the 62-year-old Kher is all set to take up the challenge because he feels he has always been portraying complex characters right from his first filmSaaransh (1984).

"Acting the role of anyone in contemporary history is extremely challenging, as comparisons are bound to be instant and inevitable.I look forward to the experience of portraying PM Manmohan Singh," Kher told The Economic Times.
The film is slated to release just before the 2019 elections. Incidentally, the book hit the shelves before the 2014 general elections and was believed to play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of the voters.
